Terrain is a community driven environmentally centered art oasis bringing wild nature through artistic responses to the surrounding landscape and its history. At its core, Terrain provides supported opportunities for artists to create new, unique works, cultivating the expansion of creative thinking and making. The goal is to foster greater environmental awareness both in the artists themselves and our audiences. Terrain artists were prompted by the dynamic history and ecology within and around the Leach Botanical Garden (6704 SE 122nd Avenue, Portland, OR). This site used to be the home of Lilla and John Leach. Lilla Leach was a renowned botanist who discovered five new plant species previously unknown to western science.

Terrain is co-curated by Kendra Roberts, an artist, curator, and founder of Common Ground Arts, currently serving as Director of Blackfish Gallery, Portland’s longest running artist owned/operated gallery, and as the President of the Portland Art Dealers’ Association. Curatorial highlights include Vibrant Embellishments in Stone, Shell & Enamel presently at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, University of Oregon in Eugene; Terra Incognita at the Verdancy Project in 2023; as well as the upcoming Grief Holiday at The Lantern in November 2026. Tammy Jo Wilson is an artist, curator, and co-founder of the nonprofit Art in Oregon. She curates and produces the ongoing traveling art exhibition BLACK MATTER showcasing Oregon-based black artists. Wilson currently serves as the Visual Arts & Technology Program Manager at Lewis & Clark College. Her own artistic practice has been showcased nationally, with recent solo exhibitions at Souvenir Gallery in Portland, Gretchen Schuette Gallery in Salem, and Truckenbroad Gallery in Corvallis.
